The Monarch Diaries is my new Substack newsletter offering an idiosyncratic working scientist’s idiosyncratic perspective on a distressingly wide range of subjects. It’s essentially a longer spinoff of a Twitter account of the same name, shot through with the same ambivalence about the medium and the value of spending precious time on it.
The overarching purpose of this really does involve Monarch butterflies - D. plexxipus - and the (probably) doomed effort to save the once-immense migratory population in North America. Writing about Monarchs (and insects generally) remains my favorite thing to do in this hellish medium, and when all is right with the world I’ll only post about them.
All is not right with the world, though…
